Why Aren't You Outside?

You know what? This winter was brutal. And spring, with its dramatic entrances and false promises — what a narcissist. And then — June. The neighbors are outside. The streets are alive. The city feels like itself again, and if you live here you know exactly what I mean.

The peonies in full extravagant bloom — ants and all, which is apparently the price of beauty and a metaphor I'll leave right there. The hydrangeas too, including mine, which are still alive. This is entirely about the water and not at all about my talent.

June. The most colorful month on the calendar — and in this marvelous, big-hearted Twin Cities community, that has never meant more. 🌈

The weather is perfect. It is, frankly, a sin to be inside.

Verdant. Obscenely, generously, finally verdant.

June is the month Minnesota finally stops apologizing. The yard is yours. The evenings are long. Don't waste them on deferred maintenance.

  • Inspect your irrigation system before the heat sets in. A broken head wastes hundreds of gallons before you notice — and your lawn will notice first.
  • Power wash the deck, patio, and any surface that survived a Minnesota winter. You'll be amazed what's under six months of grime.
  • Check window and door screens. One missing patch and you've invited every mosquito in the metro to your dinner party.
  • Service your air conditioning before the first brutal week. The HVAC technician who isn't booked solid in June does not exist.
  • Clean out gutters one more time. Spring meant cottonwood, maple seeds, and whatever else the wind had opinions about.
  • Fertilize the lawn — but check the forecast first. Fertilizer applied before a heavy rain is money poured directly into the storm drain.
  • Trim back any overgrowth that made it through spring unchecked. Vines are charming until they're structural.
  • Test your outdoor outlets and lighting. June nights are worth sitting in.

Do it now. July has no mercy.

The June Edit — Object of Desire

One object of desire for the sensorial season we are in.

Nanimarquina Garden Rug — Natural

Two textures, two tones, one very considered rug. Warm amber meets ribbed natural fiber in a design made specifically for outdoor living — not adapted from an interior version, but built for it. Recycled PET and coconut fiber mean it can handle a Minnesota summer without apology. The fringe is the finishing touch that makes it feel collected rather than purchased.

This is the rug that makes people ask where you got it.

A Note From Natasha

Friends, the Como Lake house is gone. Snatched up — and honestly, can you blame anyone? If ever there was a home made for a June like this one, that was it.

But I'm still here, and so is my eye for outdoor space. If this newsletter has you dreaming about a porch, a lawn, or a garden that earns its keep — let's talk.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going outside.
