Well. Here we are. The last full month of summer, somehow.
In my house, we're deep in peak Leo season — three birthdays in ten days: my two daughters, my ninety-two-year-old mother. All Leos. My credit card has started flinching preemptively.
Everyone else is running their own version of the sprint. One last trip up north. College kids packing up like it's a heist. Back-to-school lists that read like ransom notes. All of it collapsing into the Great Minnesota Get-Together, which closes the whole month out on cheese curds and questionable judgment.
It's a magical time to be a Minnesotan. Nostalgic, even, though I couldn't tell you exactly why. Maybe it's the way something always ends right as something else begins — the next grade, the next level, off to college. Growing up, disguised as a calendar turning.
YOU'RE HAVING FUN IN THE SUN. WINTER IS TAKING NOTES.
Future you, shoveling in a parka, will thank present you in shorts.
