Home Is Heritage:

In real estate, we talk a lot about numbers—price per square foot, comps, market shifts. But rarely do we talk about what it means to say goodbye to a home that has held generations of memory, love, and familia.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to honor that kind of goodbye.

Recently, I had the privilege of working with a longtime client—a matriarch—who sold the home where she raised her family, celebrated birthdays, and built a life rooted in tradition. The house sat on Como Lake, quiet and beautiful, with decades of memory etched into its walls like soft fingerprints.

She was ready. But that didn’t mean it was easy.

In Mexican culture, the home—la casa—is sacred. It’s more than shelter. It’s the epicenter of familia, where stories are passed, meals are shared, and milestones are marked. It’s where elders hold space, where children return, and where heritage is lived out in everyday rituals.

So when it’s time to let go of that kind of space, the process deserves reverence. It’s not just a sale. It’s a farewell. A transition layered with memory, meaning, and grace.

As I walked with my client through this moment, I thought of my own mother—who just turned 91 and is still the stern and steady anchor of our family. I thought about how I would want someone to treat her if she were saying goodbye to the place that held her story.

That’s how I approach this work. Not just as a realtor, but as someone who understands how deeply we are shaped by the places we call home.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, I celebrate the strength of our matriarchs, the legacy of la familia, and the quiet courage it takes to let go of a home—with love.
